Custom Made Quilts
Horizons Quilting: Professional and Creative Services by Joan Hug-Valeriote
Joan has over 20 years experience quilting on longarm machines. She can provide you with a variety of machine-quilting services, for your finished quilt top, from basting prior to hand-quilting, to simple freehand and pantograph designs, to custom quilting designs.
COMMISSIONS (ART QUILTS)
Commissioned art quilts are usually wall quilts ranging from very small landscapes to large abstract wall-hangings and/or installations. Sometimes, fabrics need to be hand-dyed or painted for these works of textile art. Some hand-quilting and/or embroidery can be done, in small amounts.
CUSTOM-MADE BED QUILTS
“Custom-made” means making a quilt for you “from scratch” and can cost upwards of $300 for a baby quilt and upwards of $1500 for a single bed quilt, depending on the fabrics used and the complexity of the design. Charges are by the hour and an estimate can be provided.
EDUCATION: WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES
Joan has been teaching workshops to adults for over 20 years and 10 years teaching children how to sew and quilt in Ontario elementary schools, offering integrated programing that includes literature, social science and mathematics, as part of the Art curriculum.
